History Of Shabdamala
Shabdamala Nepali Language School was established as a result of collaboration between the Gurkha-Nepalese Community Inc. (GNC) and Guthi Australia Inc. to establish a structured delivery of a Nepalese language program in Sydney, Australia.

We are registered as an association with the NSW Office of Fair Trading and a registered member of the NSW Federation of Community Language Schools. We offered our first class in 2010 at Marrickville West Public School and now have 6 branches across Sydney in the suburbs of Campsie, Carlton South, Granville, Macquarie Fields, Normanhurst and The Ponds.

Sabdamala aims to establish and maintain a healthy and conducive environment for the teaching, learning and appreciation of the Nepalese language, culture and heritage for school-aged children from 5 to 12 that are currently enrolled in New South Wales (NSW) mainstream schools. This will be achieved through teaching in both classroom and external environments such as excursions.

Our students will be familiarised with the Nepalese language and cultural values and will impart to them the importance of their cultural heritage and the benefits that this can bring to their personal and professional life.

Our teaching method will be based on a unique blend of Nepalese content and Australian teaching methodologies to develop reading, writing, listening and speaking skills in Nepalese. Our teachers are sourced from within the Nepalese community and undergo formal training through Certificate III in Community Language Training, Sabdamala teaching workshops and training within the classroom.

The Nepali Community In Australia
Sabdamala’s roots are in the Nepalese Community in Sydney.

Our origins date back to the early 2000s when the Gurkha Nepalese Community started a children’s activity group as part of its activities offered to the Nepalese community. In 2009 members of the GNC and Guthi Australia met to discuss the establishment of a program with the formal delivery of the Nepalese Language.

Sabdamala is very proud of its origin and the community in which we live and serve. We are an association in and for the Nepalese Community. We actively engage with associations within and external to the Nepalese community.

To date, our children have participated in events and programs offered by the following Nepalese Community Organisations.
